Aft and Fore

Back and forth,
Aft and fore,
Port and starboard,
The sea moves us.
At the stern
The captain stares
At his art
And thinks of his direction.
Dark green waves curdle
To a foamy white
Slapping the boat in glee.
The wind from starboard
Hits the sails with startling speed.
Caitlin calms the children,
Nisa bakes on the deck
And Ryan weighs his life on the Bowsprit.
Aft and fore
Port and starboard
The white boat sails
In the lively blanket of sea.
